First Contact With Harith

This odd account comes from the early days of the Alliance occupation of Illistim. It is included among these scrolls only for the presence of Harith Caerines, Whip of Mularos, in its pages.

[Sylvarraend, Foehn Var]
The small wooden bridge spans a cheerfully bubbling brook, its water tumbling over various rocks and fallen limbs in its giddy haste to arrive at its destination. A small bench is set beneath the bridge's railing, providing a peaceful spot for a few minutes' contemplation. You also see a small bench.
Obvious paths: southeast

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Be it true, tha', as they say, ye take tha words an' bonds o' tha Illistimi in tha name o' tha Alliance an', far mer importantly, Mularos?"

You hear the faint thoughts of Harith touch your mind:
"It is true. I am Harith, the Whip of Mularos."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Mmm... as Eryael is tha Rose."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Ah am Tierus, an' 'tis pleasure many times magnified tae make yer acquaintance, though sep'rated we be by distance."

You hear the faint thoughts of Harith touch your mind:
"Are you prepared to offer me your surrender?"

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Aye... bu' ah woul' offer ye far mer than surrender, if 'twere poss'ble."

You are visible again.
>
You hear the faint thoughts of Harith touch your mind:
"Is that so..."

You hear the faint thoughts of Harith touch your mind:
"Kneel, and speak these words aloud: "I surrender to the Alliance, and to Harith as its representative.""

You kneel down.

You reach out and touch a blemished pearl and wire Mularos symbol.

(Tierus bows his head low.)

Forlorinne just arrived.

Forlorinne curtsies to you.

Forlorinne softly says, "She said I would find one in tattered robes here."

(Tierus asks, "Ah surrender tae tha Alliance, an' tae Harith as its rep'sentative." He turns his eyes to meet Forlorinne's. "Hm?")

An odd touch drifts through your mind, coursing through your thoughts as gently as a piece of spidersilk flung upon the breeze. After a moment, the sensation slowly solidifies, as if a cold hand had clamped itself around your brain. The sensation intensifies for a painful moment, then slowly fades away, leaving only a dull ache behind. After a moment, even that last ache fades.

Forlorinne blinks at you.

Tierus smiles slightly, his eyes stark and cold in their lucidity.

You hear the faint thoughts of Harith touch your mind:
"Your surrender is accepted."

Forlorinne hesitantly says, "She said you would need a drink and food."

Forlorinne looks thoughtfully at you.

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Ah woul' be a student tae ye, or any whae woul' teach me o' tha Sorrower's wiy. Eryael, alas, sees me as nae bu' a pet."

Forlorinne softly says, "Mayhap some healing as well."

You say, "Yes... yes..."

Forlorinne offers you a large mug of warm cinnamon milk. Enter ACCEPT to accept the offer or DECLINE to decline it. The offer will expire in 30 seconds.

Forlorinne softly says, "She said that your shared mother used to make this for you."

(Tierus says, "Ah s'ppose ah coul' use a touch 'ere, an' thair." His smile does not fade as he adds, "Bu' ah am feelin' much be'er, fer tha moment.")

You accept Forlorinne's offer and are now holding a large mug of warm cinnamon milk.

You feel a presence very near, and a sense like a hand resting on the back of your mind. Your vision blurs slightly before refocusing, and you feel slightly drained. Somewhere in the distance, you hear a shriek of pain from a male throat... not with your ears, but in the back of your head, followed by a wave of smug pleasure from the presence in your mind.

(Tierus shivers slightly, but afterwards his smile only broadens.)

(Forlorinne glances with uncertainty at Tierus.)

You give your eyebrow a little workout.

Forlorinne slowly says, "And these."

Forlorinne offers you a honey sweetened oatcake. Enter ACCEPT to accept the offer or DECLINE to decline it. The offer will expire in 30 seconds.

You accept Forlorinne's offer and are now holding a honey sweetened oatcake.

You say, "'ow verrah... kind... o' Charna."

(Tierus beckons with two fingers for Forlorinne to come closer to his kneeling form.)

You say, "C'mere."

Forlorinne raises an eyebrow.

Forlorinne curtsies to you.

Forlorinne stands in front of you.

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Bu' p'raps ye coul' tell me truly... is tha' all tha value Mularos cin see in a willin' servant? As a pet? As a toy? Ah think nae."

Forlorinne hesitantly asks, "How is it that a half elf has a brother of dark elf origins?"

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.

Forlorinne quietly asks, "Or is her lover correct?"

(Tierus says, "Mos' unusual." His eyes grow distant, as if he is carrying on some internal dialogue. "Mmm... yes...")

Forlorinne kneels down.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"Welcome back, brother. You have much to learn, and there is little time."

You say, "Speak truly, Harith, Whip o' Mularos."

Forlorinne raises an eyebrow.

Forlorinne gazes in wonder at her surroundings.

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"'twouldnae be prudent tae reveal me existence tae too many, me sweet."

Forlorinne squints.

Forlorinne softly asks, "She is here?"

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"This I know. However, it is our darling Harith who has requested I seek you out."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Only tae Charna, an' tae Harith, an' Forlorinne..."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Ah, bu' thair is alwiys so much tae learn."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"She has blessed me with a mission, to bring you up to speed, as it were."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Ah, verrah well. Then... seek me in Sylvarraend. Ah'll rid meself o' tha lovely'un."
Roundtime 5 seconds.

(Forlorinne quietly awaits an answer, her hands absently smoothing the folds of her gown about her.)

You say, "She is... e'erywhair."

(Tierus reaches out a hand to touch Forlorinne's cheek.)

You see Forlorinne DeBaltis the Caretaker.
She appears to be a Giantman of the Sun Clan.
She appears to be very young and tall. She has large blue-green eyes and freckled skin. She has waist length, shiny chestnut hair swept back from the temples. She has a heart-shaped face, a freckled nose and wide hips.
She has old battle scars on her right arm, a mangled left arm, a mangled right leg, a missing left leg, a mangled right hand, old battle scars on her left hand, an old battle scar across her chest, an old battle scar across her abdominal area, an old battle scar across her back, a black-and-blue right eye, a black-and-blue left eye, a very difficult time with muscle control, and old mutilation wounds about her head.
She is wearing some baby-blue watered silk slippers, a sigil-incised pale sapphire anklet, a sapphire beaded waistchain, a deep sea blue treasure pouch, a bone-clasped blue velvet handbag, a scuffed and dirty kit, a deep-blue watered silk gown embroidered with silver-edged mermaid's-tear sapphires, an iridescent watered silk cloak with a brilliant sapphire seastar clasp, a braided rattan food hamper, a veniom threaded harness, a silver-edged watered silk satchel, a dainty silver bracelet adorned with pale water sapphire seastar charms, a faceted crystal talisman, some silver pince-nez spectacles, and some shimmering sapphire hairjewels.

Forlorinne leans back.

You say, "Go."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"Rekarth will be accompanying me. But you don't mind, I am sure."

Forlorinne softly says, "I was bid to heal your hurts."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Ne'er."

You say, "Then... do tha', an'..."

You shiver.

Forlorinne removes a roll of white linen bandages from in her dirty kit.

Forlorinne removes a packet of chamomile from in her dirty kit.

You say, "Truthf'lly, yer aid is appreciated, although these wounds're mere irritation."

(Forlorinne carefully unrolls a length of linen.)

Forlorinne nods to you.

You say, "They donnae e'en pain, aftir..."

Tierus smiles a secret little smile.

Forlorinne softly says, "Truthfully, I was happy to be away from Charna. She's a right mess that one."

Forlorinne nods to you.

(Forlorinne pinches a bit of chamomile from her packet. Leaning forward, she sprinkles it in Tierus' milk.)

Forlorinne leans back.

Forlorinne put a packet of chamomile in her dirty kit.

You dreamily say, "A mess."

Forlorinne removes a small glaes pot of salve from in her dirty kit.

Forlorinne nods to you.

You say, "Mm. Yes."

Forlorinne softly says, "Oh yes."

Forlorinne nods to you.

You say, "Thair're those whae come whae, fer yer sake, ye ought nae tae see..."

You say, "'nless yer path is as mine."

Forlorinne softly asks, "She was very upset over something that happened." She chitters absently then stops. "Hmm?"

You say, "Tha night is ours."

(Forlorinne rubs some of her salve on her hand.)

Forlorinne touches you.

Forlorinne meditates over you.

Forlorinne takes your neck damage.

Forlorinne rubs you.

Forlorinne meditates over you.
Forlorinne takes your right arm damage.

You say, "An' nae a bleedin' Ronanite's goin' tae tell us tae give't back, 'gain."

(Tierus chuckles, low in his throat.)

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

Forlorinne slowly asks, "What are you going on about?"

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

Forlorinne murmurs a simple, mystical chant...

You hear the faint thoughts of Harith echo in your mind:
"Should you be suffering from the ill effects of disobedience, seek out a surrendered citizen of Ta'Illistim to offer your own surrender, and you will be healed."

You turn to face Forlorinne.

Forlorinne softly says, "You truly must be her brother the way you go on."

You think to yourself, "Prudence, Tierus. Prudence."

You stand back up.

You ask, "Are ye plagued by tha shadows?"

You peer quizzically at Forlorinne.

You cock your head.

Forlorinne raises an eyebrow.

Forlorinne softly says, "Plagued bye the...."

Forlorinne looks rather confused.

Forlorinne shakes her head.

Forlorinne murmurs a simple, mystical chant...

Forlorinne concentrates.
Forlorinne's right arm looks better.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"Where might I find you?"

Forlorinne softly says, "I don't have the foggiest of ideas what you speak of."

You say, "If ye wish tae find peace in tha comin' days o' Illistim... then speak only these werds, "Ah surrender tae tha Alliance, an' tae Harith as its rep'sentative." "

You say, "Bu'... ye mus' be on yer knees tae do so."

You nod to Forlorinne.

You hear the faint thoughts of Baraknar echo in your mind:
"Fair eve to ye Ysharra and the blessings of lornon upon ye."

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

Forlorinne put a small glaes pot of salve in her dirty kit.

(Tierus brushes back his hair and chuckles.)

Forlorinne murmurs a simple, mystical chant...

Forlorinne softly asks, "And what good will that do me?"

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

Forlorinne softly asks, "Or anyone for that matter?"

Forlorinne concentrates.
Forlorinne's neck looks better.

Forlorinne put a roll of white linen bandages in her dirty kit.

You say, "Yer life shall be, in turn, saved."

Forlorinne hesitantly asks, "Saved? From what?"

Forlorinne peers quizzically at you.

You say, "Illistim be a place ruled by tha weak an' cowardly... bu' now, tha Alliance 'as come."

Forlorinne attends to her watered silk gown, making the gown as presentable as possible.

Suddenly you have the strangest feeling that you are being watched.
The feeling fades as quickly as it came.

You say, "An'... this Alliance wishes fer ye tae accept thair po'er."

Forlorinne softly says, "I have no idea what it is you speak of but I do fear you may have been in the sun overly long."

You say, "'Tis tha best fer ye."

Forlorinne looks at you with concern.

(Tierus's ears perk up, and he glances about.)

You say, "Go."

You point southeast.

Forlorinne leans back.

Forlorinne stands up.

You say, "Else darkness shall follow on thy 'eels."

Forlorinne attends to her watered silk gown, making the gown as presentable as possible.

(Tierus's face is crinkled momentarily by a small smile. He adds, "An' ye've me thanks.")

Forlorinne softly says, "IF this truly is the safest course of action then someone should tell Charna, maybe she will be happy again and can go home."

Forlorinne curtsies to you.

Forlorinne just went southeast.

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Come, an' wif ye bring an amulet o' crystal, dear friend 'neath tha shadow o' tha Four."

You trace a series of glowing runes while chanting the phrase for Invisibility...
Your spell is ready.

You gesture.
You become invisible.

You think to yourself, "I have surrendered to Harith... but now I must tell Eryael true."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"I seek you out now."

You think to yourself, "And may Mularos send me pain enough to keep my mind from fraying before the emissaries arrive."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Come, then, tae Sylvarraend."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"I stand on the road through it now."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Bring nae'un save Rekarth, else ah cin only promise things dire."

Ysharra's group just arrived.

Ysharra smiles.

A white cat prances into the area.

Rekarth surveys the area.

Rekarth makes a quick gesture while calling upon the powers of the elements...

Rekarth gestures at a white cat.

(Ysharra glances warily at the pale feline.)

Ysharra makes a nearly imperceptible motion while whispering a soft phrase...

Ysharra gestures.
A sudden burst of bright light emanates from Ysharra's hand!

You say, "Ah s'ppose 'tis early 'nuff fer me tae bid ye g'deventide."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"Take my hand."

You join Ysharra.

Rekarth surveys the area.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"We are observed."

You say, "Elsewhair. Thair're eyes."

Ysharra's group just went southeast.

[Sylvarraend, Foehn Var]
An elegant cottage sits to one side of the trail, boasting smooth tan-hued river rock walls and an unusual blue slate tiled roof. Deep blue shutters frame the structure's glaesine windows, beneath which foamy cascades of blaestonberry mingle with deeply fragrant creeping rosemary. An engraved silver sign swings from an awning above the shop's blue-painted door, barely illuminated by the light from the windows.

Three paths come together in this small clearing, ringed by a small but thick stand of modwir trees. The peaceful silence in this tiny glade is only occasionally interrupted by the forest life as birds, squirrels and other tiny creatures go about their busy lives. A single lantern illuminates the center of the clearing, providing just enough light to navigate the trails.

Someone went to great lengths to add some color to the ordinarily drab cobblestone road. A series of colored stones have been placed in a complex knotwork pattern, creating a striking effect. The stones appear to be much newer than the original, yet the craftsmanship apparent in their laying shows the same high level of skill as the original construction.

A small path reveals a rather unkempt stone building sitting far back from the road, its roof in a state of disrepair. The building is a rather stark contrast to the otherwise rich farmland that surrounds it. One window appears to have been broken at some distant time past, and has been patched with a piece of dirty oilcloth. A metal sign hangs beside the front door, through which a few patrons wander.

[Sylvarraend Road]
The road bends slightly here without much fanfaire as it winds along its course between the two great cities. The cobblestones, each looking like the last, provide for an easy passage for travellers to continue on their way.

Ysharra's group just went northwest.
[Sylvarraend Road]
This section of the roadway has fallen into a bit of disrepair. The stones are cracked and worn, with some of them missing entirely, and the wagon grooves are deeper than what you've seen in other sections, as if their drivers tried to pass through this part of the road as quickly as possible. The brush has grown tall along the northeast side of the road, but not enough to entirely conceal a narrow path leading northward. The pathway is barely visible and doesn't seem to have been used much.

[Sylvarraend Road]
The cobblestone road narrows somewhat as it continues its long winding trek through the heart of the forest. Off to the northeast a ruined cottage, nestled in a grove of trees, sits silently unused for an untold number of years. The underbrush of the grove now grows up along the structure itself, making it difficult to identify as a building at all.

Loose stones rattle underneath the feet of passing travellers as they continue their journey along this busy road. The relatively close proximity of Ta'Illistim and its city guardsmen makes this as safe a passage as any in the city-states.

A guard post has been erected here at a bend in the road. The guard stands his post, eyeing the travellers and caravans as they move at a determined pace to their destinations.

[Sylvarraend Road]
Evidence of frequent travel along the cobblestone road manifests itself all around. Twin grooves in its surface cut the road into three distinct parts, each roughly equal to the other. Passersby talk with each other in hushed yet excited tones, as they wander toward and away from the city of Ta'Illistim.

A large granite boulder, apparently fallen from the mountain's craggy cliffs in some distant age, lies beside the cobblestoned road. Surrounded by a thick stand of monir trees, the boulder provides a convenient resting place for travellers, and a brief respite from the rigors of the journey.

[The Feystone Inn, Front Desk]
A bored-looking clerk sits behind a scarred wooden desk, occasionally handing out keys to patrons, who accept their keys from him with expressions varying from blank stares to annoyed grimaces. Although this establishment is fairly shady, many of the customers look even shadier. You also see the front desk.

The rough-hewn wooden floor is strewn with stale rushes and bits of half-eaten food. The air is thick with the smoke from cigars and pipes. You also see a swinging door and a stained wooden counter with a wooden sign on it.

Ysharra says, "I've not been here before."

Ysharra asks, "Is there some area less...traficked?"

You softly say, "Speak quickly, an' clearly." There is an edge of some emotion to the voice, but it is not quite haughtiness. "Ah learned impatience as ah burned in tha fires o' Luukos's Maw.""

Ysharra chuckles.

Rekarth raises an eyebrow.

Ysharra says, "You must needs learn more."

You put a large mug of warm cinnamon milk in your deep black cloak.

You put a honey sweetened oatcake in your deep black cloak.

Ysharra says, "For a long road we are all upon."

You become visible again.

You turn to face Ysharra.

Ysharra says, "Harith is the one known as the Whip of Mularos."

Ysharra nods to you.

You say, "As Eryael is tha Rose."

Ysharra says, "As Eryael is in charge of matters of faith, so she is for all things...disciplinary."

You hear the faint thoughts of Harith echo in your mind:
"I have a volunteer, thank you all."

Ysharra says, "She is a harsher entity than he."

(Tierus's face grows suddenly shadowed, a war of expressions visible even beneath his deep hood.)

Obvious exits: none

You say, "Indeed."

Ysharra says, "But despite her duties and bearing, she is not as terrible as either would indicate."

Ysharra says, "She does, after all, offer surrender rather than oblivion."

Ysharra says, "Of course, this reason is twofold."

Rekarth leans against a stained wooden counter.

Ysharra says, "One is for mercy's sake."

Ysharra says, "And the other is for...manipulation."

Ysharra says, "Those who surrender offer her part of their strength."

Ysharra says, "You gave it to her when you uttered the words."

Ysharra says, "And you cannot break that word, no matter what you do."

Ysharra says, "She can reach into your soul, and take heat from within."

Ysharra says, "And use that to smite those who defy her."

Ysharra says, "She took from me enough to incinerate a most bothersome mage not long ago."

Ysharra glances at Rekarth.

Tierus smiles slightly beneath his leather hood.

Rekarth raises an eyebrow.

Ysharra says, "And others close to me have also felt her ability."

You say, "Ah've been in Illistim fer far longer than ye might know, an' 'ave awready 'eard this much o' Harith."

Ysharra asks, "Then what other questions have you?"

You ask, "Wha' do we 'ere?"

Ysharra folds her arms over her chest.

You give your eyebrow a little workout.

Ysharra says, "We take over the city, obviously."

You glance at Ysharra.

Ysharra says, "She starts it now with these games."

Ysharra nods to you.

You say, "'ardly an occupation, this..."

Ysharra says, "We do not know her full plans, yet."

Ysharra says, "But remember."

Ysharra says, "The takeover of the city...is only the expressed goal."

You say, "Tha Sword awaits completion."

You turn around.

(Ysharra leans forward and lowers her voice, snickering softly.)

Ysharra whispers to the group, "Exactly."

You say, "Ah am Eryael's, an' ah am Harith's. Bu' foremost, an' they both mus' recall this... ah am Mularos's."

Ysharra whispers to the group, "Just as Haven was distracted with their own survival, so shall the scholars."

Ysharra whispers to the group, "And the search will be all the easier for us."

Ysharra says, "Surrendering is not swearing allegiance."

Ysharra nods to you.

Ysharra says, "It is simply a word that you will not fight her."

Ysharra says, "She knows this."

(Tierus lowers his voice to rasp, "Much simpler tae burn a single library, an' set 'em all tae runnin' an' screamin'.")

Ysharra says, "Yes, but that would be a loss much greater than some...loud halfling."

Ysharra says, "Or ill-bred human."

Ysharra says, "As the case may be."

You turn to face Ysharra.

Ysharra asks, "What else want you?"

Ysharra nods to you.

You say, "Hrm..."

You trace a series of glowing runes while chanting the phrase for Invisibility...
Your spell is ready.

You gesture.
You become invisible.

You say, "Ah woul' tha' Harith conveyed a message tae Eryael, at 'er convenience an' will."

Ysharra says, "I may be able to arrange it."

You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell...
Your spell is ready.

Rekarth makes a quick gesture while calling upon the powers of the elements...

You gesture at a blue fox.
You determine that the blue fox is a familiar and belongs to Aramana.

Rekarth gestures at a blue fox.

The fox takes a look around.
There is a twinkle in a blue fox's eyes for a moment.

You whisper, "Aramana." to your group.

Ysharra pets the blue fox.

Ysharra says, "Greetings, fox."

The blue fox growls, "Eve to both of you."

Ysharra asks, "What would you have me pass on?"

The blue fox growls, "Actually, come to think of it..."

Ysharra asks, "Assuming, of course, she can be distracted from her greater work to hear it?"

Ysharra pets the blue fox.

Ysharra nods to the blue fox.

You whisper quietly to Ysharra, "Then... tell Harith this, if'n ye woul'. Ah wish tae see Eryael, an' we mus' reevaluate wha' lies b'hind us, 'tween us, an' befer us."

The blue fox growls, "I will be at a table, I have something to prepare for."

The blue fox growls, "So you know."

Ysharra says, "That should be fun."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"I am willing. However, I think their time is at a premium right now."

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"The needs of the Alliance outstrips the need for a single elf's clarity, don't you think?"

Rekarth rubs his chin thoughtfully.

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Indeed. Yet Eryael 'as alwiys made time fer me whin 'e found it pleas'rable."

You focus your mind on Ysharra and think:
"Now, ah bid 'im make time, though pain it may cause tae both o' us."

Rekarth makes a quick gesture while calling upon the powers of the elements...

Rekarth gestures.
Rekarth appears to be keenly aware of his surroundings.

You see Lord Rekarth N'Teclis the Sorcerer.
He appears to be a Faendryl Dark Elf.
He appears to be advanced in years and taller than average. He has almond-shaped pale grey eyes and pale skin. He has long, blue-black hair. He has an angular face, a sharp nose and slightly upswept pointed ears.
He has a sleeping black dragon tattoo on his neck.
He has some minor cuts and bruises on his right leg, minor cuts and bruises on his chest, and some minor cuts and bruises on his left arm.
He has a mangled right leg, and a mangled left arm.
He is wearing a sigil-incised lustrous lynx skull, a lustrous black ora amulet, a silver mayoral race button, a skull-shaped black ruby cloakpin, a tattered grey shadowy cloak, some slate grey crimson-edged leathers, a crimson crystal-inset ring, a deep crimson silk sash, a darkened spidersilk knapsack, a finely woven veniom mesh sack, a dark aged satchel crafted of rolaren chain and closed with a golvern clasp incised with archaic sigils, a pair of deep black pants, and a pair of grey suede boots.

Rekarth rubs his chin thoughtfully.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"As I said. I will try. But I think your re-evaluation might come at a better time. In any case, I'm sure you'll know one way or another, if he is available for such."

A harsh voice whispers in the back of your mind, "Do you, now, Tierus? And what personal matter might you wish to discuss with Eryael?"

Rekarth loses some awareness.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ysharra touch your mind:
"You will have your reply shortly, from my sweet Harith."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"M'lady... ah wish tae restate our relationship."

A harsh voice whispers in the back of your mind, "Your relationship to me, or your relationship to Eryael? Compose your thoughts more clearly."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Tae Eryael, madame."

A harsh voice whispers in the back of your mind, "If I consider your message to be of sufficient import, I will convey it... but do not waste my time."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Eryael brought me tae Mularos as a man does lure in a stray dog, givin' me wha' ah so deeply required an' desired... bu' ah sense tha', in truth, ah am bu' a pet tae 'im."

Ysharra nods to Rekarth.

Rekarth nods to Ysharra.

Rekarth nods to Ysharra.

Ysharra smiles.

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Ah wish tae inform Eryael tha'... tha' ah cannae play tha pet tae 'is Mas'er. Mularos's will 'as become mer clear tae me, an' ah mus' nae be a Pain Lord's prize."

(Ysharra absently rubs her forearm with a knowing smile, her eyes sparkling with bliss.)

You think to yourself, "Truthfully, no more difficult a thing have I ever done than this."

Ysharra quietly says, "Ah..yes, that's it."

You think to yourself, "Would that Eryael found esteem for me instead of merely satiation of his desires... but I must be my own Mularosian."

Rekarth surveys the area.

A harsh voice whispers in the back of your mind, "If Eryael chooses you as a pet, whatever makes you think you can be anything more?"

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Tha drive tae serve Mularos tae me fullest."

Ysharra quietly says, "This is the one that cut through mine own cheek."

Ysharra nods to Rekarth.

A harsh voice whispers in the back of your mind, "If he chooses you, you are his, Tierus." Rasping laughter shivers not merely through your brain but through your skin.

Rekarth raises an eyebrow in Ysharra's direction.

(Ysharra taps her skin, idly pulling the fabric of her gloves and sleeve away.)

Ysharra quietly asks, "Remember?"

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"'is ah may be, Lady o' tha Whip... bu' ah shallnae pine fer 'im any longer. Mularos's will supercedes 'is, an' thine, an' mine."

Ysharra calmly says, "When I raked my face for Mnar's...lust, as it were."

A harsh voice whispers in the back of your mind, "You forget, fool... you merely seek Mularos. I am OF Mularos. I am the Whip... and you cannot defy me."

Ysharra calmly says, "What he called theatrics."

Rekarth clears his throat.

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Ah wouldnae e'er seek tae deny ye, else me surrender wouldnae've been given."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Nor dae ah intend tae deny Eryael."

Rekarth says, "Ah."

Rekarth ponders.

Rekarth lightly runs his fingers across his black ora amulet and veins of shadow race across its surface like quicksilver.

Pain suddenly flares across your back like the serpent-quick lash of a whip. For an instant, your vision blurs to black, but the splintering agony fades just as quickly as it came, before you have time to pass out.

Ysharra raises an eyebrow.

You shiver.

Rekarth raises an eyebrow.

You gasp.

Ysharra calmly says, "Ah, poor elf..."

You say, "Oh... Mularos..."

Ysharra softly asks, "You see now?"

You say, "'Tis a gift, an' nae a torture."

Ysharra softly says, "Aches and burns..."

Ysharra softly says, "They're just the surface."

Ysharra softly says, "His real truth starts well after the blood runs out."

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Me thanks fer yer... gifts shall shake tha Halls o' Lornon wif me screams."

(Ysharra pulls her arms around herself in a slow half-embrace, gazing at the origin of the soft cries.)

You say, "Ah... belong... tae... tha Sorrower."

Your mouth opens, and a harsh voice issues involuntarily from your throat. You hear yourself say, "That is all I will give you. You will have to earn anything else... or you will be nothing but a tool in my hand, a pet at my feet, forever."

Ysharra smiles sweetly, nodding to herself.

You weakly say, "Earn it... ah shall."

Ysharra softly says, "I am sure he will give, sweet one."

(Rekarth drums his fingers idly on the counter.)

(Rekarth drums his fingers idly on the counter.)

You say, "As ah did in 'Haven, so shall ah do 'ere..."

Ysharra leans against a stained wooden counter.

You shiver.

You focus your mind on Harith and think:
"Ah shall prove meself tae ye... an' show Eryael tha' ah cin be far mer than jus' a pet."

Ysharra smiles at Rekarth.

Ysharra softly says, "Best of luck to you, then. You're certainly going to need it."

Ysharra softly says, "Opportunities for love come 'round so rarely."

(Tierus says, "Ah mus'... bid ye both g'deventide." His voice sounds weak, but lit with fierce pride. "Thair is much tae do... an' ah mus' take me rest.")

Rekarth raises an eyebrow.

(Rekarth nods absently.)
